Cases of invasive Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) in west Essex

NHS West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been informed of two cases of Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) bacterial infections among elderly people in west Essex.

The patients affected were receiving wound care in their own homes or in care homes.

We are working closely with Mid Essex CCG, which is leading an incident management team into an iGAS outbreak in the Mid Essex area, to investigate and monitor the situation and to ensure that control measures are implemented to further limit the spread of infection.

Updates will be published on the Mid Essex website. For full details of the iGAS outbreak, including the west Essex cases, visit the Mid Essex CCG website.
