Essex moves to Tier 4 restrictions – changes to Christmas bubbles

Updated 20 December 2020

Parts of Essex moved into new Tier 4 - Stay at Home restrictions on Sunday 20 December, 2020.

Uttlesford, Colchester and Tendring have remained in Tier 2.

GP surgeries will remain open as normal in Tier 4. Please call your practice if you need medical assistance. Call NHS 111 for urgent health advice.

The new restrictions mean changes to the way we will spend Christmas in Tier 4. See the Government website for more details about what Tier 4 means for you.

You can visit the Essex County Council website for more information about the new Tier 4 restrictions in Essex and the support available for those who need it most.

Will the COVID-19 vaccinations continue in Tier 4?

COVID-19 vaccinations began in Essex during the week starting 14 December. These will continue.

In line with national guidance and to protect those who are the most as risk first, the vaccine is initially being offered in the community to people aged over 80.  GP practices are working through their patient lists and will contact people when it is their turn to be vaccinated. Find out more on our COVID-19 vaccination page.

Please do not contact your GP practice for a vaccination. You will be invited to an appointment when it is your turn. Remember the NHS will never ask you to pay for a COVID-19 vaccination.

In the meantime please continue to follow Government guidance to control the spread of the virus and save lives.

This means hand-washing thoroughly and regularly, wearing a face covering in line with guidance unless you are exempt, and maintaining social distancing.

What are the COVID-19 symptoms?

Typical coronavirus symptoms are: a high temperature; a new continuous cough; or a change to or loss of sense of taste of smell.  A high temperature or fever is usually considered to be a temperature of 38C or above. For more details about coronavirus symptoms see the NHS website.
