A cancer diagnosis can be devastating – and knowing where to turn in the wake of it can be overwhelming.

But the One Step at a Time campaign, the work of teams here at the CCG and Princess Alexandra Hospital, is seeking to ease that burden for patients and professionals.

They have produced a booklet and videos, one through the eyes of a patient and another looks at what it's like from a family member's point of view.

Now available in 5 languages - Urdu, Punjabi, Romanian, Polish & Italian.

One Step At A Time is a first hand account from a patient living with cancer.

First Steps

Being diagnosed with cancer is a real shock....it has no respect for age, gender or ethnicity.

You are now a member of a club that you didn’t want to be part of.

Breaking the news to loved ones can be very hard.

It’s ok not to be ok

Always remember it is ok noto to be ok.

You won’t feel ‘brave’ or ‘positive’ every day…. be kind to yourself.

Dig deep as its going to be a bumpy ride.

Just keep one foot in front of the other.

Help and support

There is so much help and support available.

You might find that in family, friends or support groups and online.

Delegate – get people to provide practical help.

Your nurse and consultant are key to providing the right advice at the right time…. too much information can be overwhelming.

Thoughts for the Day

Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
