Where to start

If you are looking for a care home on behalf of someone else, there are a number of different resources available to help you know where to start looking, the types of care the home offers as well as specific questions to ask.

The Age UK website is a useful guide to help you with deciding on where is right for you, and includes a care home check list and questions to take with you when visiting homes.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) also provides a wealth of information including details of how care homes are inspected and regulated to ensure that quality standards are met and the right care is provided and meets resident’s needs. You can also read the latest CQC report for each care home which details the inspector’s reasoning for giving the rating they did.

End of Life care

The National Gold Standards Framework (GSF) in End of Life Care is a good quality indicator for End of Life Care delivery in care homes. This national training programme enables frontline staff to provide a gold standard of care for people nearing the end of life. View more information.
